Marque claims fastest-charging EV battery

Chinese carmaker Zeekr says the new electric vehicle (EV) batteries in its latest 007 sedan model charge faster than those produced by other companies.

The marque claims its upgraded batteries can go from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in 10-and-a-half minutes using its ultra-fast charging stations.

In comparison, charging a Tesla Model 3 for 15 minutes will allow it to cover about 280km, which is under half the car’s full range, reports the BBC.

It explains the “new charging speed record” is achieved by the new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries in the 007, pictured, when connected with Zeekr V3 ultra-fast charging piles dotted across China.

“Thanks to the optimised materials and upgraded technology, the speed is higher than what’s achieved by existing nickel-cobalt-manganese batteries, representing the new achievement by Zeekr’s in-house e-powertrain R&D team,” the company says.

Zeekr adds an enhanced battery management system means charging remains stable in harsh conditions. At temperatures as low as -10C the vehicles can charge from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in 30 minutes, it says.
