Marque backs motorsport
Ford NZ has renewed its commitment to grassroots motorsport by returning as a key sponsor of this year’s New Zealand Formula Ford Championship.
The company says this “significant partnership” underscores its long-standing dedication to nurturing emerging talent and supporting the sport’s foundational categories in this country.
The NZ Formula Ford series is recognised globally as a stepping stone for aspiring young drivers. Since its inception in 1971, it has been instrumental in developing numerous world-class talents.
These include Formula 1’s Liam Lawson, Indy 500 winner Scott Dixon, Supercars champion and Nascar driver Shane van Gisbergen and ex-F1 driver Brendon Hartley.
The series is officially recognised as a national championship by MotorSport NZ. It features a competitive platform with a 1,600cc Ford Kent engine, emphasising driver skill and car set-up.
“Ford has an unparalleled heritage in motorsport, globally and here, and we are proud to reinforce our connection with Formula Ford,” says Annaliese Atina, managing director of Ford NZ.
“This category is the proving ground for future champions and our renewed sponsorship for the 2026 season is a testament to our belief in its importance. We’re excited to help power the next generation of Kiwi stars.”
Series organiser Shane Drake says: “The return of Ford NZ as a sponsor is a tremendous boost for Formula Ford. Its support provides crucial resources that enable us to continue offering a high-quality, accessible platform for young drivers to hone their skills.”
Ford NZ has a rich history of supporting sporting codes and motorsport initiatives, including previous title sponsorships in V8 SuperTourers and support for Rally NZ.
The partnership with the NZ Formula Ford Championship aligns with the brand’s global motorsport strategy, which includes a return to F1 this year.
The sponsorship will provide vehicle and financial support for the series, helping to ensure its continued success in fostering competitive racing and driver progression.
The series will be contested over four rounds and 15 races with events planned for the North and South Islands.
Round one takes place from January 24-25 at Teretonga Park, Invercargill, before heading to the Levels Raceway, Timaru, from January 31 to February 1. From March 14-15, it’s Hampton Downs Motorsport Park. Round four is from March 27-29 at Taupo Motorsport Park.
