At the same time, the rest of New Zealand – that’s everywhere south of the Auckland region’s boundary – will move into alert level three.

A meeting of the cabinet will review these settings on Monday.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says today’s case numbers “suggest we may be seeing a plateau”, and everyone needs to keep up the hard work to bend and flatten the curve.

There have been 70 new cases of Covid-19 in the community today. In a statement, the Ministry of Health says there are 19 community cases in hospital, including one in ICU. All are in a stable condition.

The total number of cases linked to the current community outbreak now stands at 347, with 333 in Auckland and 14 in Wellington.

The ministry reports 278 cases have clear epidemiological links to another case or sub-cluster. Links for another 69 cases are still to be fully established.

The total number of active cases in New Zealand was at present 384 and there have been a total of 2,941 cases in Aotearoa.

The ministry says 90,757 vaccines were administered on August 27, including 65,541 first doses and 25,216 second doses – the biggest daily total to date.

More than 3.11 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered in this country – two million first doses and more than 1.1 million second doses.
