‘Local knowledge’ to drive new platform

CarExpert New Zealand has announced two key editorial appointments before the new automotive platform’s launch here next month.

It says the move is the first step in building a dedicated New Zealand team to deliver trusted, independent, new-car coverage for Kiwi consumers.

Matthew Hansen, pictured right, has been named as editor and Dave Kavermann. pictured left, as motoring journalist for the operation and they will bring extensive local motoring and editorial experience to the brand.

CarExpert New Zealand, a joint venture between Trade Me and CarExpert, will focus on new-car reviews, comparisons, buying guidance and market insights tailored specifically for the local market.

Damon Rielly, CarExpert’s chief executive officer, says: “These appointments set the tone for the kind of leading automotive journalism that CarExpert New Zealand will stand for.

“Local knowledge, editorial independence and a genuine commitment to helping people buy the right car, without the run-around.”

Hansen will lead the platform’s editorial direction and is responsible for ensuring relevant, in-depth new-car coverage for audiences across written, video and digital platforms.

His background includes co-founding motorsport outlet Velocity News, contributing as a specialist journalist for NZ Autocar Magazine and Driven at the New Zealand Herald, and most recently serving as editor of motoring at Stuff.co.nz.

Kavermann has experience across radio and charity public relations and communications. He also worked in new car sales after leaving school and co-founded a New Zealand motorsport annual with his father.

He later became an accredited Motorsport New Zealand and V8 Supercar photographer, which led to him working for the New Zealand Herald.

CarExpert’s expansion into New Zealand follows its success in Australia and its motoring coverage will be distributed via its own online platform as well as through Trade Me Motors and Stuff.
