Limited-edition Ranger arrives

Ford New Zealand has expanded its line-up of utes with the arrival of the new, limited-edition Ranger Tremor, which promises enhanced on and off-road comfort while retaining 3.5-tonne towing capability.

David Herbert, marketing manager, says the Tremor is aimed at customers who require enhanced on and off-road comfort while retaining 3.5-tonne towing capability.

“Tremor has all of the enhanced capabilities of the recently sold out Wildtrak X and it’s based on the Sport series which makes it a more affordable option suited to hard-working Kiwi environments,” he adds.

The Ranger Tremor Double Cab has a 154kW/500Nm 2.0L Bi-Turbo diesel engine and full-time four-wheel drive (4WD) system, along with the trail turn assist feature that allows the vehicle to manoeuvre around tight off-road turns with ease.

Other features include a black honeycomb off-road front grille with LED auxiliary driving lights, extended wheel arch mouldings and 265/70 R17 all-terrain General Grabber AT3 tyres mounted on 17-inch alloy rims.

Its rugged capabilities are boosted with the standard fitment of a steel bash plate, steel underbody protection for the engine, transfer case and fuel tank, two front tow hooks, cast aluminium side steps and a long-leg tubular sports bar.

The ute has the same reworked suspension with specially developed Bilstein Position-Sensitive Dampers as the Wildtrak X, which provides a 24mm increase in ground clearance and a 30mm wider track.

The Ranger Tremor is available in four body colour options and the seats are trimmed in water-resistant black vinyl with grey stitching, while vinyl flooring is used instead of traditional carpets to make cleaning the interior easier.

Drive modes can be selected via a rotary dial that offers normal, eco, tow/haul, slippery, mud/ruts, sand and rock crawl, with the system adjusting the throttle response, gearshifts, traction and stability control, rear diff-lock, as well as the steering and braking system.

The Tremor joins the Wildtrak and Raptor models as the only ones in the Ranger line-up available with Ford’s full-time 4WD system, which uses an electromagnetic transfer case mated to the 10-speed automatic transmission with advanced eShifter and electronic parking brake.

There’s also a two-wheel drive mode that disengages the front axle for rear-wheel drive only.

Driver assistance systems for the vehicle include trail turn assist, trail control, hill descent control, hill launch assist, a lane keeping system with road edge detection, pre-collision assist  and blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage.

Post-collision braking is standard on the Tremor, along with nine airbags, smart keyless entry with push-button start and an alarm system and immobiliser.

Pricing starts from $74,990, excluding on-road costs.
