Leitch claims US win

Brendon Leitch has claimed pro-am class honours along with Anthony McIntosh at Sebring International Raceway in his first Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America race.

The first 50-minute race of the weekend in Florida, which was as part of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship support card, was an eventful affair with a brief full-course caution after three vehicles collided at the hairpin.

McIntosh began in the number 69 Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 and completed a solitary compulsory stop after the safety car returned to the pits midway through the race.

Leitch took the reins and set about clocking his quickest laps, which were as good as the best pro times. A minor mechanical issue reared its head in the closing laps that he managed to the chequered flag.

With the class lead under control, Leitch cruised home to take the class win and finished sixth overall.

He and McIntosh came home five seconds clear of second-placed Paul Nemschoff and Marc Miller’s pro-am Flying Lizard Motorsports car.

“We are very happy to have won the first race of the championship,” says Leitch. “I just looked after the car to the finish once I got in.

“We won by a decent margin and stamped out authority on the pro-am class. Before the issue we had a massive gap, but I just nursed the vehicle home in the end.”
