Liam Lawson snared his sixth top-10 placing of the Formula 1 season after finishing seventh in the Brazil Grand Prix.

The result puts the New Zealander on 36 points and 14th in the drivers’ standings. He is only seven points behind ninth place with three rounds of the 2025 championship remaining.

His effort, combined with teammate Isack Hadjar taking eighth place on November 11, leaves Racing Bulls sixth in the teams’ standings, where they are 10 points ahead of Aston Martin.

Lawson, pictured, started the Brazil race seventh on the grid and at one stage was up to fourth place as he executed a marathon 52-lap stint on medium tyres as part of a one-stop strategy.

He managed to hold off Nico Hulkenberg and then Hadjar at the end of the race to secure the third-best result of his F1 career, behind a fifth-place finish in Azerbaijan and sixth in Austria this year

“I'm super happy with today’s result. It was very tough towards the end as we opted for a one-stop strategy,” says Lawson.

“The tyres were in good shape at that point, but it’s super sensitive around here.

“If you push too much in one corner, you pay the price in the next one, therefore, tyre management was key.

“On top of that, I was trying to manage energy to make sure I had power down the straights. The strategy worked well for us, so a big congratulations to the team – it’s been a massive effort to have both cars in the points today.”

Championship leader Lando Norris strengthened his grip on the title race as the McLaren driver took the chequered flag in Sao Paulo ahead of Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen respectively. Norris now has a 24-point advantage over McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri.

The F1 drivers will next do battle at the Las Vegas Grand Prix on November 24 (NZ time).
