Kiwis among front runners

Two New Zealand drivers are in the top five of the IndyCar Series’ standings as the 2024 campaign approaches its halfway mark.
Scott Dixon, a six-time champion, is third after two wins from the opening eight races of the season, while his compatriot Scott McLaughlin is fifth and has scored one victory so far this year.
Marcus Armstrong, the third Kiwi in the competition, is 14th and has had two top-five finishes.
The drivers are now preparing for the Grand Prix of Monterey in California on June 24 (NZ time), which will be the ninth race of the 18-race series.
McLaughlin was the best-performing New Zealander at the last race after he clinched third in the Grand Prix at Road America, Wisconsin, with Dixon 21st and Armstrong failing to finish.
Australia’s Will Power won that race ahead of Josef Newgarden, with the victory helping him jump into the number-one spot in the drivers’ standings.
Before that, Dixon had enjoyed one week at the top of the championship after he took the chequered flag in the Detroit Grand Prix, Michigan, on June 3.
Armstrong joined him on the podium that day after placing third and Mclaughlin was 20th.
