Kiwi ace seeks improvements

Shane van Gisbergen is keen to improve on his race starts and make his pit stops quicker despite extending his lead in the Supercars championship after the latest round of racing.

The Kiwi ace won two of his three starts in the Perth SuperNight round last weekend and placed fifth in the other race.

The Red Bull Ampol Racing driver now holds a 164-point advantage over Shell Ford’s Anton De Pasquale.

“Although it was an awesome weekend, we still have some weaknesses,” says Van Gisbergen.

“My race starts haven’t been great … I keep getting shockers. Our pit stops maybe aren’t quick enough to put the pressure on some of the other guys.”

Van Gisbergen had never won in Perth before the weekend but clinched victory in the opening clash at Wanneroo Raceway over the weekend, which also marked Holden’s 600th win in  in the Australian Touring Car Championship and modern-day Supercars series.

“Normally, it’s not a very strong track for myself, so it’s good to get a couple of wins here in Perth,” he notes

Will Davison secured Ford’s first win since November 2021 when he took the chequered flag in the second race.

The championship resumes with the Winton SuperSprint at Winton Motor Raceway in Victoria on May 21-22.
