Jeep Compass gets 5 star safety rating

Jeep is debuting their new Compass model that the company scored positive ratings in all vehicle safety categories – including adult protection, child protection, pedestrian protection and driving assistance safety systems. The Compass meets the 2017 EuroNCAP standards and Jeep says this underscores how the Compass has been developed with safety and protection “at its heart”. Jeep Compass’s maximum EuroNCAP five-star rating is partly provided by a roll cage – 65% of which is constructed of high-strength steel – ensuring high torsional strength and passenger protection, plus the availability of more than 70 active and passive safety systems. Safety systems available in the new Compass range include collision warning and lane departure sensors, and the assistance of electronic steering. Cruise control comes as an optional feature and is able to maintain distance from the vehicle ahead, and in certain circumstances and can bring the vehicle to a full stop without driver intervention.  The safety equipment offering available on new Compass also includes specific systems to assist with parking manoeuvres, such as Rear Cross Path detection which notifies drivers backing out of parking spaces of vehicles crossing behind via illuminated icons on the side-view mirror and with a driver-selected audible chime. The Compass range also includes six airbags (frontal airbags for the driver and front passenger, side curtain airbags for all rows and side airbags on the front seats) and electronic stability control. Pricing and specifications for the Jeep Compass in New Zealand will be announced when it goes on sale in early 2018 locally.
