Hybrid joins Seltos range

Kia describes its all-new Seltos as a “comprehensively re-engineered sub-compact SUV” powered by a revised range of petrol engines and a hybrid to follow.

The aim is for the model to strengthen the marque’s position in one of the brand’s most strategically important global segments.

“The new Seltos combines a more confident character, advanced technologies and an expanded range of powertrains to meet the evolving needs of customers,” says Ho Sung Song, president and chief executive of Kia Corporation.

“Building on the strong success of the original, it is designed and engineered to strengthen Kia’s leadership in the small SUV segment while delivering a more engaging experience.”

The all-new Seltos is built on the marque’s latest K3 platform, which delivers improved body rigidity through the greater use of ultra-high-strength and hot-stamped steel. Enhanced chassis tuning, optimised suspension geometry and a reinforced structure provide a “more composed drive”.

Powertrains on offer

A new hybrid variant will join the line-up. It introduces Kia’s latest smart regenerative-braking system, which adjusts intensity based on traffic flow, road gradient, navigation data and detected hazards, such as intersections and speed bumps. Vehicle-to-load functionality adds “further versatility”.

A conventional, mechanical all-wheel-drive (AWD) system is available on 1.6-litre turbocharged models paired with a multi-link rear suspension.

Drive-mode select – with eco, normal and sport – allows owners to fine-tune powertrain and steering response. The availability of settings may vary by market region and powertrain.

For the first time in a Kia internal combustion engine or hybrid vehicle, e-AWD technology is applied to the Seltos Hybrid – in export markets only – to improve traction and control in low-grip driving conditions. The 2WD and AWD hybrids feature a multi-link rear suspension.

Refinements, such as a rear spoiler, spoiler-side garnish, aerodynamic wheels and an optimised underbody cover, help the all-new Seltos achieve a drag coefficient of 0.31, down from 0.33.

The SUV’s dimensions “have grown in every meaningful direction”. At 4,430mm long, 1,830mm wide and 1,600mm tall on a 2,690mm wheelbase, it’s 45mm longer and 30mm wider than its predecessor.

The enlarged footprint enables a more spacious cabin. It delivers 25mm more legroom and 12-14mm more headroom, while luggage capacity has increased by 38 litres to a class-leading 536l.

The transition to a column-type shift-by-wire system frees up the centre console entirely. A low, horizontal dashboard maximises forward visibility and contributes to a sense of openness in the cabin, complemented by a wide panoramic sunroof.

Connected technology features

A panoramic display combining dual 12.3-inch screens – instrument cluster and infotainment – with a dedicated climate control panel sits at the heart of the Seltos’ digital environment, paired with the marque’s latest connected-car navigation cockpit platform. A 12-inch windshield head-up display projects data into the driver’s line of sight.

An AI assistant enables “natural conversational voice interaction” for controls, navigation, entertainment and general queries. It can guide users through vehicle set-up, support travel planning and recommend music.

The digital key with ultra-wideband technology allows smartphone-based access – including smart-approach unlock and walkaway lock – without requiring the phone to be held against a sensor.

Over-the-air software updates cover the infotainment system and vehicle controllers, keeping capabilities current. Kia Connect Store provides access to downloadable features and personalisation options.

Forward collision-avoidance assist now operates across an expanded range of 10-85kph, while new features include intelligent speed-limit assist and highway-driving assist with hands-on/off detection. Lane-keeping assist, safe-exit warning and a surround-view monitor are included.

Global variety

Global production of the all-new Seltos began in December 2025 at Kia’s plant in India, with sequential production at facilities in South Korea and China also under way.

The model will be available across South Korea, North America, Europe and China this year, reaching up to 189 countries globally.

Engine options depend on the region. In South Korea and North America, the Seltos will come with three petrol engines – a two-litre, 1.6T-GDI and 1.6l hybrid electric. Europe gets the same minus the two-litre. In general markets, engine options vary by production plant, ranging from the 1.6l hybrid to the 1.5T-GDI/VGT.
