Honda drops Accord from NZ market

The Honda Accord is disappearing from the Japanese carmaker’s local line-up after about 40 years on New Zealand’s roads.

Honda New Zealand says the V6-powered Accord NT (New Technology) model was this country's last, reports Driven.

The Accord is the second sedan to be cut from the local market recently, following the loss of the Holden ZB Commodore. However, while the Commodore is set to disappear on both sides of the Tasman at the end of 2020, the Accord will continue to be offered in Australia.

Dropping the Accord from the New Zealand market is a sign of the times as an increasing number of car buyers choose utes and SUVs. The possible saviour for sedans could be EVs, which remain the favoured body-style for Tesla and electrified vehicles such as the Toyota Prius and Hyundai Ioniq.
