Hilux defies commercials’ slump

There were 2,485 new commercials registered last month, which was down 48.4 per cent when compared with 4,819 in June 2021.
Toyota’s Hilux, pictured, was the top model with 771 units, a 22.2 per cent increase from 631 in the same month a year ago. It was also the only model out of the top seven last month to record a year-on-year increase in registrations.
In second spot for June was the Ford Ranger on 225 registrations, which was down 75.3 per cent from 910 units, and Toyota’s Hiace was third with 122, a drop of 27.4 per cent from 168 last June.
The Ranger remains just in front of its rivals for the year to date with 4,896 registrations and a 19 per cent share of the market.
Close behind is the Hilux on 4,786 and 18.6 per cent, and Mitsubishi’s Triton on 4,462 units and 17.4 per cent.
On the marques’ ladder, Toyota was top in June with 924 registrations, up 6.8 per cent from 863 units a year ago, and a market share of 37.2 per cent.
Ford’s 287 registrations last month were down 73.2 per cent from June 2021, while Isuzu was third on 202.
Toyota leads the way year to date with 5,873 registrations and a market share of 22.8 per cent. Ford is second with 5,176 and 20.1 per cent and Mitsubishi is third on 4,742 and 18.4 per cent.
Marque does double
As for used-imported commercials, there were 348 registered in June compared to 595 in the same month last year for a decrease of 41.5 per cent.
Toyota’s Hiace was the leading model on 50 registrations and a market share of 14.4 per cent. However, the number of units was down 71.9 per cent from 178 registrations in the previous June.
The Hino Dutro was next on 33, up 32 per cent from 25 units over the same period, and the Isuzu Elf was third with 22 registrations, down 18.5 per cent from 27.
The Hiace is the leading model year to date with 1,190 sales and a 25.9 per cent market share, and the Nissan NV350 is second on 793 units and 17.2 per cent.
Toyota was the top marque last month with 94 registrations, a 63.4 per cent drop from 257 a year ago, followed by Nissan with 60 units and Hino on 47.
Year to date, Toyota has 1,629 registrations and a 35.4 per cent market share. Nissan is next on 1,268 and 27.6 per cent, with Hino third on 369 and eight per cent.
