General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV) is set to bring a range of full-size, North American trucks to our shores after establishing a new network of dealers.

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500, pictured, is the first vehicle being offered by GMSV in Australia and New Zealand.

Six showrooms for the brand are now open across New Zealand, including two sites in Auckland – Giltrap GMSV in Newmarket, and Manukau GMSV in Manukau.

Other locations are Ebbett Hamilton GMSV, Robertson GMSV in Palmerston North, Johnston Ebbett GMSV in Wellington, and Blackwells GMSV in Christchurch.

The Silverado has been remanufactured to right-hand-drive by Walkinshaw Automotive Group and next on the list to arrive here will be the Silverado 2500 and the C8 Corvette in late 2021.

Joanne Stogiannis, director of GMSV, says it has launched with more than 50 dealers across Australasia and looks forward to adding more.

“Our GMSV dealers are now open for business in Australia and New Zealand,” she explains.

“We can’t wait to see the first Silverados being driven out of our GMSV showrooms.

“We believe there is significant opportunity in Australia and New Zealand for our iconic North American vehicles to compete in niche segments.”

The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado features a 6.2-litre EcoTec3 V8 petrol engine, a 10-speed auto transmission and has a towing capacity of 4.5 tonnes.

Active safety features include front and rear park assist, lane change alert with side blind zone alert and rear cross traffic alert, forward collision alert, low speed forward automatic braking and front pedestrian braking.

The Silverado’s Durabed tray delivers motorists a power up/down tailgate, cargo bed camera, LED cargo lighting, standard spray-in liner and 12 tie-downs.
