Global boost for marques

Bentley Motors has topped 15,000 sales in a year for the first time after achieving record performances in the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific.
The British luxury carmaker says total deliveries climbed four per cent from 2021 to reach 15,174 units, with strong demand globally offsetting a nine per cent drop in China caused by coronavirus-related lockdowns.
Adrian Hallmark, chief executive officer, says: “In what was another year of unpredictability, the business overcame significant headwinds and demonstrated great resilience to deliver the third consecutive record sales year.”
The Bentayga SUV was the marque’s top-selling model in 2022 and accounted for 42 per cent of vehicle sales.
Bentley, which has committed to going fully electric by 2023, says it expects a slight drop in production in 2023 as shutdowns in China have slowed orders.
Porsche on the up
Porsche is also celebrating another record year after its final delivery numbers for 2022 jumped three per cent to 309,884 units.
Sales in Europe, excluding Germany, grew by seven per cent to 62,685 cars, while in its home market of Germany deliveries climbed by three per cent to 29,512.
The market for Porsche vehicles in North America remained flat last year on 79,260 units. China was the marque’s number-one market by volume after 93,286 cars were sold, although this was down two per cent from 2021.
Global sales for the Porsche 911 and Cayenne SUV increased in 2022, while the numbers for its Taycan EV, Macan SUV and 718 sports cars all dropped year-on-year.
