Get yourself connected
Connected vehicle capabilities are coming to New Zealand when the all-new ES sedan launches here in mid-2026.
Lexus Connected Services introduces “intuitive technologies that simplify everyday life while enhancing safety, security and reassurance”.
The marque adds only its cars fitted with an active system will provide these functions, which include SOS emergency call functionality, automatic collision notification and stolen-vehicle tracking.
Alongside the latest Lexus Safety System+, connected services will offer convenience functions for drivers and passengers via an app.
Remote functions include start, lock and unlock, and climate-control management. Through the app, owners can access insights such as the odometer reading, distance to empty, vehicle location and notifications for unlocked doors or open windows.
Andrew Davis, vice-president of Lexus NZ, says: “Connected services make it easier for customers to stay informed, connected and feel supported whether they’re behind the wheel or away from the vehicle. It’s about giving drivers intuitive access to information and functions they need.”
The system does not access the owner’s mobile data plan. Instead, it operates using the vehicle’s inbuilt data communication module. However, when using the Lexus Connected app on a mobile device, the owner’s mobile data may be used.
Automatic collision notification alerts a Lexus emergency call centre if the car detects a serious collision even if the driver cannot place a call. Built-in sensors trigger this notification, allowing the call centre to direct emergency services to the location if needed. Assistance can also be manually requested by an occupant via the SOS button.
If a car is reported stolen, stolen-vehicle tracking may assist in locating it. Upon receipt of a police report, the call centre can be requested by the owner to share the car’s location with police to support recovery efforts.
Lexus Connected Services also deliver enhanced navigation and trip management, including access to cloud-based maps and weather information.
Drivers can select a destination on their cellphone and send their journey directly to the car.
Individual connected features will be grouped into product bundles and offered with complimentary trial periods before shifting to a paid subscription model. Customers can opt out of selected services if they choose.
Core safety features, including SOS emergency call and automatic collision notification, are expected to remain free.
The eighth-generation ES will showcase fresh looks with its new-generation spindle body and design. It will be available in hybrid and full-electric powertrain options.
