Ford NZ conducts voluntary recall

Ford New Zealand is conducting a voluntary recall of certain vehicles with Takata airbags – non-Alpha airbags.

The voluntary safety recall involves non-Alpha Takata airbags. However, there have been no reports globally of any cases of inflator rupture in the vehicles included in this voluntary recall.

The voluntary Takata safety recall is to replace the driver and front passenger frontal affected Takata inflators for:

- Certain 2004-2006 model year econovan vehicles.

- Certain 2004-2006 model year courier vehicles.

- Certain 2004-2011 model year ranger vehicles. This does not include the current Ford Ranger, says Ford New Zealand. All Ranger models made after the Ranger (P375) launched in 2011 are equipped with inflators from Autoliv and TRW.

Ford New Zealand will be notifying owners of affected vehicles directly, starting in the next two weeks.

"Dealers will replace the driver and front passenger affected Takata inflator or the entire airbag module at no cost to the customer," said Ford in a statement.

"Anyone concerned can check their vehicle VIN on the Ford NZ web site on the Customer page to see if their vehicle, in particular, is affected."

"Ford has sufficient parts available to repair any vehicle that is brought in for repair. We will rely on customer responses and accuracy of vehicle owner data in order to complete this recall as soon as possible."

The overall recall involves approximately 12,794 vehicles in New Zealand.
