Ford is preparing to expand its SUV offering for New Zealand customers with its new Everest Sport 4WD joining the line-up from January 2020.
The seven-seat, off-roader boasts a range of new features inside and out and will have a starting price of $73,990.
New Bi-Led headlights are part of an upgraded high-performance lighting system, which claims to provide 17 per cent greater lighting penetration to show the driver more of what’s ahead, and a 20 per cent greater penetration in high-beam mode. Distinguished by a rectangular lamp design, the system will also be standard on MY2020 Everest Titanium from January 2020.
The Everest Sport has a new colour of deep crystal blue, which Ford says has been chosen to “show off its black detailing and bold, 20-inch alloy wheels”. Other colour choices are arctic white, shadow black, meteor grey and aluminium.
Inside the new model there is standard leather-appointed seating for all seven seats; gear-selector, steering wheel and park-brake boot are all leather-wrapped; while above the instrumentation, Everest Sport offers a soft-touch dash pad. The 8.0-inch full colour touchscreen display doubles as a reversing camera.
Under the bonnet, the Everest Sport comes standard with Ford’s Bi-Turbo, 10-speed automatic new-generation powertrain. With 157kW/500Nm, the Bi-Turbo Everest’s braked towing capacity is 3,100kg braked.
The vehicle also has a water-wading figure of 800mm, with 227mm ground clearance, 29.5 approach and 25.0-degrees departure angles. Fuel economy figures for the Everest Sport are a combined 7l/100km.
Ancap has awarded the model a five-star safety rating, and safety features include seven airbags, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping aid with driver alert system, rear parking sensors and hill descent control.
