Focus on congestion pricing

A panel of experts will be tackling the issue of congestion pricing as part of a special online presentation and discussion being organised by Intelligent Transport Systems NZ (ITSNZ).

The digital event on Thursday, April 7, will open with an update from the Ministry of Transport (MoT) on the progress of policy towards congestion pricing in New Zealand before panelists share their own views on such systems.

Attendees can then grill the experts during a question-and-answer session to conclude the Zoom event, which runs from noon to 1.30pm.

ITSNZ says congestion is one of the biggest issues in urban transport, affecting carbon emissions, public health, transport equity, transport revenue, productivity, stress on infrastructure and land use.

“Congestion pricing has the potential to be one of the most potent levers to help us address these issues and more,” it adds.

The panelists lined up for the webinar are Marian Wilberg, MoT’s demand management and revenue manager, Michael Roth, Auckland Council’s lead transport adviser, Scott Wilson, client service lead road user charging at CDM Smith, and David Bolt, vice-president of sales and solution consulting in Asia-Pacific for Kapsch TrafficCom,
