EVs lead chase for gong
Electric vehicles (EVs) dominate the list of 12 finalists contesting an annual automotive award, with only three of the models battling for the prize available with just an internal combustion engine.
Ten marques are represented across the shortlist for the New Zealand Car of the Year title that will be voted for by members of the New Zealand Motoring Writers’ Guild, with six of those models pure EVs and three available as plug-in
The finalists for the 2022 award are the BMW iX, BYD Atto 3, pictured, Ford Everest, Hyundai i20 N, Kia EV6, Kia Sportage, Lexus NX, Mercedes-AMG EQS 53, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Mitsubishi Outlander, Polestar 2 and Tesla Model Y.
Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 took out the 2021 gong and this year’s winner will be announced on TVNZ One’s Seven Sharp programme in February 2023.
