Evans gains championship lead
Mitch Evans has raced to the top of the drivers’ standings in the AIB Formula E World Championship after finishing second and fourth in the latest two races that were held on the streets of Monaco.
The Kiwi is 19 points clear of his nearest rival, Britain’s Oliver Rowland, with seven more of the season’s 17 races left.
Evans, who competes for Jaguar TCS Racing, has 128 points, while his compatriot Nick Cassidy is seventh on the ladder after coming ninth and 18th over the weekend.
The Jaguar outfit also lead the teams’ championship after the latest action and hold a 24-point advantage over Porsche.
Evans, pictured, says being out front in the championhisp is a great feeling but notes there’s still a long way to go.
“Overall, it’s been a strong weekend,” he adds. “We worked hard to make sure we were in the fight by qualifying well and staying consistent throughout the [first] race.
“I scored good points again [in race two] but felt I could have had more. We made the call to go early with a six minute attack, which meant I then had to manage energy in the mid phase of the race and lost track position.
“I’ll look at that with the team, but I’m happy to be leaving Monaco with the world championship lead.”
The series resumes on June 20 with a race in Sanya, China.
