EV rapidly ‘gaining traction’

Jaecoo’s J5 is “gaining traction” in New Zealand after being a “runaway success” in some overseas jurisdictions.

It was this country’s most popular EV in April with 89 units registered, “confirming the brand continues to provide compelling products which resonate with customers”.

Priced at $42,990 plus on-road costs, the J5’s features include a panoramic glass roof, 13.2-inch information touchscreen and leather seats made of pet-friendly materials.

With a 402km WLTP range and DC fast-charging from 30-80 per cent less than 30 minutes, the EV “also ensures range anxiety is a thing of the past”.

Roy Munoz, chief commercial officer of Omoda Jaecoo Australia and New Zealand, says: “The J5 has been a runaway success in a number of international markets and it’s great to see the EV is quickly gaining traction in NZ.

“It’s an attractive product backed by a seven-year unlimited kilometre warranty, which gives customers confidence in not just the J5 but our entire range.”

The brand notched up 160 registrations for a two per cent share of the Kiwi market in April, taking its year-to-date total to 894.

Leading the charge is the J5 with 330 orders since launching in March. It has been a similar story across the ditch for the EV with Australian dealerships taking more than orders 7,000 for the model.
