EV2 has strategic role

Kia has unveiled the EV2 – a compact electric SUV designed to make electric mobility “more emotional, intuitive and accessible”.

The model had its global premiere at this month’s Brussels Motor Show where the EV2 GT Line and the marque’s latest electric GT models, the EV3 GT, EV4 Hatchback GT and EV5 GT, were also on display.

The EV2, pictured above, plays a strategic role in Kia’s expanding EV portfolio. As the most compact electric SUV in its line-up, it’s designed as a “gateway model” for first-time drivers of electric cars and those new to Kia.

The EV2 comes two battery options, 42.2kWh and 61kWh for anticipated ranges of up to 317km and 448km respectively on the WLTP. Fast charging enables 10-80 per cent in 29 minutes for standard-range models and 30 minutes for long-range models with support for 11kW/22kW AC charging.

It combines a compact footprint with a clear SUV identity. Its stance, shoulder line and wheel arches give it a solid road presence, while vertical lighting elements and Kia’s latest “star map” signature create a modern face.

The marque says the EV2 delivers one of its most expressive interiors defined by the idea of a “picnic box”, a “cozy personal space that offers a moment of calm within the rhythm of city life, supported by a solid, durable foundation”.

A wraparound crash pad integrates the panoramic wide display, combining a 12.3-inch cluster, five-inch climate panel and 12.3-inch infotainment screen.

Ambient lighting synchronises with turn signals and physical controls are organised by frequency of use for intuitive, distraction-reduced operation.

Despite its compact proportions, the SUV’s interior space is comparable to larger vehicles. Sliding and reclining rear seats allow legroom to extend up to 958mm, while luggage capacity reaches up to 403 litres with the rear seats fully forward. A class-leading front trunk – aka frunk – enhances everyday usability.

Production of the EV2 will begin in the first quarter of 2026 with the standard-range model, followed by long-range and GT Line variants during the year. Market launch timings will be announced closer to the start of sales.

What GT models offer

The EV3 GT, EV4 Hatchback GT and EV5 GT, pictured below, expand Kia’s electric strategy across multiple segments.

Each combines dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD), GT-specific chassis tuning and electronically controlled suspension, immersive digital features such as virtual gear shift, active sound design and dedicated GT driving modes.

The EV3 GT has a 215-kW dual-motor AWD system, GT-specific design highlights, semi-bucket seats and ambient lighting.

The EV4 Hatchback GT offers “expressive” driving dynamics, combining a 215-kW dual-motor AWD set-up with performance-orientated tyres and 20-inch wheels.

A dedicated GT driving mode, active sound design and virtual gear shift “heighten” engagement.

The EV5 GT boasts AWD, enhanced output and GT-specific chassis tuning, including electronically controlled suspension with road-preview function, complemented by exclusive design and interior elements.

The EV3 GT, EV4 Hatchback GT and EV5 GT are slated to enter production in the second half of this year.
