EV brand launches GT

Polestar says is has reinforced its position as the first European pure electric-car company through its presence at the IAA Mobility in Munich. 

The Swedish performance brand’s four-door GT, the Polestar 5, was launched at the event this week.

The EV employs an in-house developed electric rear motor that contributes up to 450kW and 660Nm to the Polestar 5 Performance’s 650kW and 1,015Nm total power output. 

This allows the Performance variant to accelerate from 0-100kph in 3.2 seconds, while the 550kW Polestar 5 Dual motor takes 3.9 seconds. Both versions are electronically limited to 250kph.

An 800-volt electrical architecture – the first of its kind in a Polestar – help achieve these numbers and allow the 5 to charge at up to 350kW on a suitable DC charger. 

The 10-80 per cent battery charge benchmark can take as little as 22 minutes and an external charging indicator on the C-pillar gives a first glance indication of the vehicle’s state of charge.

For increased efficiency, the rear motor of the Polestar 5 can be disconnected, and the Polestar 5 Dual motor can achieve up to 670km on the WLTP on a single charge while the Performance variant can be driven for up to 565km.

Extensive sustainable materials are used throughout the car. It also boasts Android Automotive OS with Google built in, high levels of standard equipment and a four-plus-one seating arrangement.

The Polestar 5 Grand Tourer is priced from US$171,100 for Polestar 5 Dual motor and US$193,100 for Polestar 5 Performance.
