A Taupo-based start-up has expanded its employment platform and app for drivers into Australia.

The launch of Red Ninja’s technology across the Tasman marks a significant milestone for the New Zealand-founded business as it “reshapes” the future of transport and logistics with its service.

By connecting companies with a network of pre-vetted and ready-to-work skilled drivers, the platform can tackle labour shortages thanks to its “flexible, scalable and cost-efficient solution”.

It essentially offers businesses a one-stop shop to access drivers on-demand while creating job opportunities for those registered.

Its Australian launch focuses on the mining industry, which is known for its job opportunities and competitive wages.

In its first year in New Zealand, Road Ninja onboarded more than 500 drivers and 100 companies for more than $1 million in transactions.

“The expansion into Australia is a key part of our growth plan,” says Bodhi Vette, pictured, chief executive officer.

“Our initial focus will be on servicing fly-in, fly-out jobs in mining by leveraging our pool of skilled Kiwis who bring extensive experience in the unique demands of this industry.

“At the same time, we’re excited to create opportunities for Australian drivers and businesses to join the platform.

“Additionally, Road Ninja will help skilled drivers access opportunities on both sides of the Tasman, fostering greater flexibility and collaboration between the two countries.”

Drivers with relevant experience, or those willing to take on contracts requiring set periods away from home, will have the chance to work across numerous destinations in the lucky country.

Vette says: “Our expansion won’t be limited to one region. We’re looking to build a nationwide driver network across Australia.”

With Andrew Ritchie as a lead investor in Road Ninja, including bus drivers is a key focus for the platform’s expansion.

Ritchie, who has significant transport interests in Australia and previously sold Ritchies Coachlines to the KKR Group in 2021, brings a wealth of industry expertise.

“Andrew’s backing brings invaluable industry knowledge and connections as we expand into Australia,” says Vette. “His experience strengthens Road Ninja’s ability to provide solutions to businesses and drivers.”

Differing from traditional driver-hire and recruitment models, Vette says Road Ninja’s subscription-based approach has transformed the commercial driver marketplace.

“Our subscription model marks a groundbreaking moment for the transport industry.  We reimagined how companies could access driver resources by combining contract sourcing, job-board advertising and direct recruitment into one platform.

“The result is a flexible solution that eliminates traditional recruiter fees and gives businesses complete control over their hiring needs. With the success we’ve seen in New Zealand, we’re confident Australia will be the next big chapter on our journey.”
