Driverless car traps man inside
A tech entrepreneur was left trapped and helpless inside a driverless car as it got stuck driving around in circles at a carpark in the United States.
Mike Johns, who initially thought the incident was a prank, filmed the saga as the self-driving taxi was supposed to be taking him to Sky Harbor airport in Phoenix for a flight to Los Angeles last month.
The autonomous Waymo car he was in suffered a malfunction and began repeatedly driving around a carpark, circling eight times while Johns was on the phone seeking help from the company, reports the Guardian.
“I got my seat belt on. I can’t get out of the car. Has this been hacked? What’s going on?” he tells a Waymo representative in the video. “I feel like I’m in the movies.”
The “looping event” was resolved after a few minutes and Johns was not charged for the trip, Waymo said in a statement.
