Drive Electric seeks new CEO

Drive Electric has begun the search for a new chief executive after announcing Brian Dewil has left the organisation only a few months after being appointed to the top post.

The EV advocacy group is also seeking new board members, with the closing date for nominations Friday, January 17.

The announcements featured in the not-for-profit’s first monthly email update of 2025, which was sent out on January 16.

“Brian Dewil, our CEO, has departed Drive Electric,” it says. “We thank him for his contributions and wish him every success in his future endeavours.

“While the board’s recruitment sub-committee works to appoint new leadership, our entire team remains dedicated to ensuring a smooth transition.

“We're fully committed to delivering on our key priorities and continuing to provide value to our members.”

Dewil, the former founding managing director of Ola New Zealand, was unveiled as Drive Electric’s chief executive in October 2024.

He was described as an accomplished executive who has consistently grown and scaled companies, particularly in the mobility and technology sectors.

At the time of his appointment, Dewil said he felt honoured to lead the organisation’s mission of accelerating sustainable transportation across New Zealand.

Drive Electric’s email update adds that this year it hopes to build on discussions with the central government in 2024 to maintain momentum in advocating for policy and regulatory improvements that support the mainstreaming of e-mobility.

It notes anyone wishing to make a nomination for the organisation’s board should email hannah@driveelectric.org.nz for an information pack and nomination form.
