Double win for electric

The Kia EV9 has achieved a dual victory in the 2024 World Car Awards at New York Auto Show.

It secured the prestigious titles for both car of the year and world electric vehicle.

The judges recognised the EV9’s design, spacious seven-seat interior, and competitive price point. Based on the E-GMP platform, it’s the first Kia to feature fourth-generation battery technology for improved performance.

Prior to this year’s event, Kia had already claimed three wins at the World Car Awards – the Telluride won the top award and Soul EV was voted best urban car in 2020, while EV6 GT took out the performance car category in 2023.

“This triumph is a testament to our unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology and design excellence,” says Ho Sung Song, Kia’s president and chief executive officer.

Other category winners this year were the Volvo EX30 – urban, Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 N – performance, BMW 5 Series / i5 – luxury, Toyota Prius – design.
