Dealers given economy labels deadline

Dealerships have been given two weeks to have all stock on their yard and advertised online displaying the new fuel economy labels being introduced from the start of April.

The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) has advised the industry a gazette notice specifying the effective date for the new-look labels, which have been updated as part of the full clean car discount scheme, has now been published.

Malcolm Yorston, technical manager of the Imported Motor Vehicle Industry Association (VIA), says: “New stock offered for sale must display the new emissions and energy economy label and meet the new online information requirements from April 1, with all vehicles displaying the new labels by April 15.

“Existing vehicle stock offered for sale must changeover to the new label and meet the new online information requirements between April 1 and April 15.”

Vehicle fuel-economy labels will now have a different format and include clean vehicle information and clarify the requirements for electric vehicles.

EECA has also updated the price of fuel per litre used as a basis for calculating fuel economy on the label The gazette notice says petrol (91 RON) goes up from $2 to $2.50 per litre, and diesel increases from $1.45 to $1.75.
