Dealer group to revamp capital site
Armstrong’s has revealed details of plans to redevelop its dealership in central Wellington into a two-storey facility that caters for five different marques.
The central-city sites are home to the Audi, Jaguar, Land Rover, Porsche and Volvo brands, with the revamp work set to start before the end of 2021
The initial stage of the project will redevelop 20 Barker Street into a new Jaguar and Land Rover customer service facility and warehousing for the group’s parts operations. There will also be new grooming, detailing and additional off-street parking areas.
Armstrong’s says the recent acquisition of this building has provided the opportunity to unlock the overall site and grow the business further.
Also in the plans over the next year is a major refurbishment of the Porsche showroom, including the addition of a mezzanine area to provide a large customer experience centre.
Stage two of the project will see the demolition of the current parts and service facility at 8 Barker Street, with a two-level, state-of-the-art facility catering for all the brands going up in its place.
Total display space will increase thanks to the addition of a 50-vehicle enclosed showroom for used vehicles on the first floor.
Troy Kennedy, chief executive officer, says: “In recent years Armstrong’s have progressively purchased adjacent properties and now have the full block to work with, a rare opportunity considering our position in the sought-after central Wellington location, based on Cambridge Terrace.
“The new facility at this iconic site will be bold and innovative, reinforcing Armstrong’s vision of the best people, best locations and best brands.”
The redevelopment plans also feature a customer suite for hosting events such as new model launches, electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities, a larger after-sales area, and the number of service bays will include ones dedicated to EVs and increase from 12 to 19.
Kennedy adds: “Investment in this location signifies our commitment to the region, as well as our focus on striving to improve the customer experience.”
