Cruising goes fully electric

Maserati has added a fourth vehicle to its all-electric range, but it’s one without wheels.
The marque is aiming to be fully electric in six years’ time and currently sells three battery-electric models under the Folgore moniker – the GranCabrio convertible, GranTurismo two-door coupe and Grecale SUV.
Developed and built in conjunction with EV marine business VitaPower, Maserati is now offering a 10.5-metre all-electric powerboat with a carbon-fibre hull.
Called the Tridente, it’s made for lake and coastal day cruising. Driven by twin electric motors with peak power of 447kW and a battery capacity of 252kWh, it can cruise at 25 knots with a top speed of 40kn and recharge in less than one hour on a DC fast-charger. Range is quoted as “up to 70km” on a single charge.
The Tridente can accommodate up to 10 people, including the driver, while the cockpit can be configured for dining or acceleration.
Passengers can relax on a sundeck alongside a bathing area with a shower and ladder for swimming. An enclosed cabin forward includes a day berth and toilet.
Orders are open in the US and Europe for the equivalent of around NZ$4.49 million and there’s a 10-month waiting period before deliveries.
