Crazy Kombi’s wacky race
A soapbox derby driver’s gallant effort to keep his VW Kombi lookalike on track had crowds gasping and laughing in equal measure when he tackled the streets of London.
The intense fun was captured on film as the “Hippy Split” team attempted to negotiate a 500m course packed with obstacles and jumps in the Red Bull Soapbox Race of 2013.
Despite losing a front wheel on the downhill course, the driver continues to wrestle with his contraption until a spectacular crash landing just short of the finish line.
His reaction – and the crowd’s – suggest the outcome was far more enjoyable then if he had managed a clean run in the event.
