Increases for new and used segments as leading models maintain their grip on the market.

Commercial registrations rise

There were 3,225 new commercials registered last month, which was an increase of 14.7 per cent when compared with 2,812 in August 2023. 

Ford’s Ranger remained the top model with 826 units, down 1.9 per cent from 842 in the same month a year ago. 

In second spot was the Toyota Hilux on 687 registrations, a year-on-year jump of 47.7 per cent from 465 units, and Mitsubishi’s Triton was third with 279 after an 83.6 per cent increase from 152 sales.

The Ranger is also leading the year-to-date ladder with 7,802 registrations and a 27 per cent share of the market.

Next is the Hilux, pictured, on 5,043 and 17.5 per cent, and the Triton on 3,273 units and 11.2 per cent.

The market’s overall year-to-date total stands at 28,850 units, which is 0.7 per cent higher than the 28,661 registrations at the same stage of 2023.

On the marques’ ladder, Ford was top in August with 931 registrations, up 2.3 per cent from 910 units a year ago, and a market share of 28.9 per cent.

Toyota’s 828 registrations last month represented an 18.1 per cent increase from 701 in August 2023, while Mitsubishi was third on 279.

Ford tops the year-to-date charts with 8,847 registrations and a market share of 30.7 per cent. Toyota is second with 6,738 and 23.4 per cent and Mitsubishi is third on 3,274 and 11.3 per cent.

Used sector up

As for used-imported commercials, there were 484 units registered in August compared with 456 in the same month last year for an increase of 6.1 per cent.

This brings the year-to-date total to 4,333, which is 1.4 per cent more than the 4,273 sales at this stage a year ago.

Toyota’s Hiace was the leading model on 186 registrations and a market share of 38.4 per cent after its monthly tally jumped 12.7 per cent from 165 registrations in the previous August.

The Nissan NV350 was next on 53, up six per cent from 50 units over the same period, and Toyota’ s Regius was third after its registrations rose from 23 to 30.

The Hiace is the leading model year to date with 1,678 sales and a 38.7 per cent market share, and the NV350 is second on 601 units and 13.9 per cent.

Toyota was the top marque last month with 256 registrations, a 15.8 per cent increase from 221 a year ago, followed by Nissan with 91 units and Hino on 34.

Year to date, Toyota has 2,195 registrations and a 50.7 per cent market share. Nissan is next on 936 and 21.6 per cent, with Hino third on 235 and 5.4 per cent.
