Comics mock cheap-car craze

A parody commercial for a vehicle made of clay had viewers in hysterics when a TV comedy show poked fun at the cheap-car craze that swept the United States in the mid-1980s.
NBC’s Saturday Night Live transformed a Renault LeCar into a Mexican import it called the Adobe for the 1986 sketch.
Comedian Phil Hartman presents the hilarious advert, which has a sticker price of just US$179, and makes a cup holder by squishing a drinks can into the clay dashboard.
Other gags in the skit include actor and comedian Nora Dunn remoulding the bumper of her vehicle back into shape after a collision, and a couple’s white outfits being soiled with clay as they leave their Adobe to play tennis.
