Comic commentary on would-be car thief

A US radio station poked fun at a bungling car thief’s failed attempts to break into a car while armed with a mop by getting a sports commentator to give a play-by-play account of the incident.

Staff from Kiro Radio in Seattle discovered CCTV footage of the man’s seemingly drunken late-night antics that show him trying to smash the window of a ute in the station’s car park.

But rather than simply releasing the video in an effort to identify the offender, they decided to have the last laugh by getting radio personality John Curley to add some commentary to the clip.

“He now positions the mop, he slams it, he slams it a second time, that’s three, that’s four, Las Vegas odds say he won’t hit it one more time,” Curley says.

“He needs a bit more of a running start… that’s 14 blows against the window with a mop, this has just about tuckered him out.”

The footage of the clumsy criminal from 2018 then takes a surprise turn as he leaves the ute and tries to clamber onto a rooftop while still carrying the mop.

His efforts end in disaster as he crashes to the ground provoking more amusing remarks from Curley: “He falls off the wall! Somebody get some salami and cream cheese and rub it all over his face, he’s unconscious.”

Kiro Radio says after 17 minutes the man got up and ran away.
