Kiwi’s perfect weekend

Shane van Gisbergen has maintained his charge towards defending his title in the Supercars Championship after a clean sweep of three victories at the OTR SuperSprint in South Australia.

The Kiwi driver completed a perfect weekend when he took the chequered flag in an incident-packed wet finale that was littered with crashes on July 31.

Van Gisbergen claimed all 315 points from the meeting at The Bend Motorsport Park and took his win tally for the season to 14. The results put him 323 points ahead of Anton De Pasquale in the drivers’ championship.

Steering his Red Bull Ampol Racing vehicle to success also gave Holden an unassailable lead in the 2022 Champion Manufacturer standings.

“It’s obviously a great weekend when you walk away with 315 points, including three fastest lap results,” says van Gisbergen.

"It was also great to claim the manufacturers’ title this weekend for Holden and GM. The brand still means a lot to a lot of people so it’s really cool to represent them.

"We have some big races coming up including Bathurst, Pukekohe and Adelaide where it will be Holden’s last showing. Hopefully we can send the Holden badge out in a good way."

The teams will be back in action at the Penrite Oil Sandown SuperSprint from August 19-21 in Melbourne.
