AC Cars is continuing to add modern updates to its classic sports cars with the announcement of its latest emissions-free creations.

The new AC Cobra Series 4–electric is based on the AC Cobra Mk IV and will be available from the specialist UK carmaker in two versions.

A 230kW model is priced at £148,000 (NZ$292,000), clocks 0-100kph in 4.9 seconds, has an estimated range of 306km and weighs just 1,190kg.

In contrast, the 460kW version will set buyers back £168,000, achieves 0-100kph in 3.8 seconds, delivers an estimated range of more than 260km and weighs in at 1,240kg.

Alan Lubinsky, chief executive, says: “Eliminating excess weight brings with it positive benefits for the car’s owner.

“Lower overall weight reduces energy consumption, allowing the batteries to deliver a longer range and the ability to drive the car to AC’s traditional high standards for speed and acceleration which the marque has achieved over many years.”

Reservations are being taken on the AC Cars website or via email at info@accars.eu. The first customer deliveries of the car are expected in late 2021.

New generation

AC Cars has announced the first AC Cobra Series 1 electric, which recreates the original Cobra of 60 years ago, is undergoing final development work ahead of the delivery of the first customer vehicles.

Lubinskysays: “I’m so proud of the team behind this project, and the hours that have been invested in making this car so special. This is British engineering and technology at its finest, upholding AC Car’s approach to producing only the finest hand-built sports cars.”

Production of the Series 1, pictured below, has been delayed by supply chain issues, but the company says this has allowed the engineering team to revisit some of the car’s core principles and as a result it is now fitted with enhanced and higher performing parts.

The car can clock 0-100kph in about four seconds, has a range of 240km, and only 58 examples will be made with a suggested retail price of £138,000.
