Chery reveals future direction

Chery Automobile has unveiled its vision of the mobility of tomorrow with the New Journeo Concept, which combines off-road capabilities with luxurious comfort.

The futuristic-looking vehicle features pioneering technologies and sustainable materials and was designed under the leadership of the 30-strong team at the Chery Advanced Design Centre Europe in Raunheim, Germany.

The four-seater multi-purpose vehicle can also be transformed into a mobile base camp.

Jochen Tueting, managing director of the Chery’s European development and design centre, says: “With the New Journeo Concept, we are taking up the challenge of making mobility even smarter, more efficient and more environmentally friendly.

“This vehicle is more than just a study – it is Travel 4.0, our vision for a sustainable and connected future.”

The New Journeo Concept’s one-piece body is optimised for aerodynamic efficiency and interior spaciousness, while a moveable instrument panel and retractable tailgate increases the cabin length by 1500mm from front to rear.

The dashboard has a minimalist design and features a yoke steering wheel and concealed air vents, while the 180-degree rotating front seats and console move on concealed underfloor rails to allow flexible arrangement of the furnishings.

Another feature is a 400mm extendable rear bench seat, which offers additional space for relaxing.

When extended, the rear seat can be opened completely, transforming the interior into a lounge area with an unobstructed view through the glass tailgate.

There is also a multifunctional, modular front luggage compartment with variable bench seating, a mobile kitchen and a barbecue.

The Journeo is powered by Chery's seventh-generation Kunpeng Super Performance Electric Hybrid C-DM system, which consists of a 2.0-litre turbo engine and an electric motor that offers a range of up to 2,500km.

A CPilot 5.0 driving assistance system provides functions such as intelligent scanning of the surroundings to support navigation at high speeds and supports the parking aid in urban areas.

The plan is for the system to be able to scan unpaved roads in the future and then actively and automatically adjust the shock absorbers accordingly.

“The New Journeo concept is not just a design study, but a clear indicator of Chery’s future direction,” notes Tueting.

“Some of the technologies and design features are expected to be integrated into the future models and the visionary vehicle emphasises Chery’s commitment to driving forward the mobility of tomorrow with innovative solutions.”
