Car transforms into elf

A mechanic has got into the Christmas spirit by creating an elf car that has been nicknamed Jingle Belle.

Ian Robertson, who runs a garage in the Scottish town of Whitburn, has equipped a Smart car with a Santa hat, flashing lights and giant elf ears as he tries to spread some festive cheer.

He has been driving the vehicle around nearby towns and villages so families, who are still under Covid-19 restrictions, can watch safely and socially distanced from their gardens and homes, reports Edinburgh Live.

The Smart car was donated by a customer and staff at the garage spent three nights and about £200 (NZ$380) transforming it into Jingle Belle. The car has also been fitted with a PA system to blast out festive tunes.

Robertson says the hat is made of a double duvet cover, the frame underneath is from a double bed rescued from a dump and the rest was put together using paint, glitter and fabrics.

The mechanic is renowned for his Christmas antics and footage of him went viral in 2018 after he transformed a car into a brightly lit sleigh and drove it through Edinburgh to transport gifts to a children’s hospital.
