Cadillac to extend range

Cadillac’s line-up in New Zealand is set to grow from two to four with the all-new Vistiq and Optiq confirmed for launch.

The factory-built right-hand-drive models will join the Lyriq and Lyric-V next year.

“We made a commitment that Cadillac’s incredible all-electric product portfolio would be a truly global offering, and that story begins in Australia and New Zealand with the Lyriq and Lyric-V,” says John Roth, Global Cadillac’s vice-president, pictured with the Vistiq and Optiq.

Driving forward, the Vistiq – a three-row SUV – unlocks “luxurious” electric motoring for larger families, while the Optiq will act as a new entry point to the marque’s range, sitting beneath the Lyriq in terms of size.

“These exciting models will appeal to an even broader range of customers and usage requirements,” says Jess Bala, managing director of General Motors Australia and NZ.

As the new entry point to Cadillac’s electric range, the Optiq comes in at 4,820mm long, 2,126mm wide and 1,644mm high. It’s intended to sit below the Lyriq in the brand’s down-under line-up.

It features a dual-motor AWD powertrain as standard for 224kW of power and 480Nm of torque.

John Cockburn, chief engineer, says: “With near-instantaneous torque, the Optiq delivers a unique and spirited driving experience. The electric architecture allows us to fit enough muscle into a smaller package to provide thrilling performance.”

The Vistiq, meanwhile, “redefines luxury, three-row electric motoring”. Measuring 5,222mm in length, 2,203mm in width and 1,804mm in height, it “ensures the luxury of space for all passengers”.

This model’s standard dual-motor AWD system delivers a powerful driving experience.

Standard chassis damping control and available air-ride adaptive suspension, combined with GM’s purpose-built electric drivetrain, contribute to the Vistiq’s smooth handling.

“From the start, it was our team’s goal to deliver a three-row SUV that provides exhilarating performance and intuitive technology, wrapped in the brand’s iconic design language,” said Jeff MacDonald, chief engineer.

“Bold, yet refined, the Vistiq provides a comfortable ride while handling like a much smaller vehicle.”

More details on both models heading to New Zealand will be revealed closer to launch.
