BYD hits new-energy milestone

BYD says it has become the first car manufacturer globally to produce 13 million new energy vehicles (NEVs).
The Chinese company hit the milestone when a Yangwang U7, pictured, rolled off the production line on July 21.
BYD has switched its entire model strategy across multiple brands to solely electrified powertrains, with NEVs defined as pure electric or super hybrid with dual-mode technology.
As a result, its total output of NEVs has gone from 10 million units to 13 million in around eight months. For context, it took 13 years to build its first million NEVs.
BYD sold 2,145,954 new energy passenger vehicles globally in the first half of 2025, up 128.5 per cent from the same period a year ago.
Yangwang is BYD’s high-end, luxury sub-brand and the U7 is now being delivered to customers across China.
