BYD has overtaken Tesla as the world’s best-selling EV maker after it sold 2.26 million units last year.
The Chinese automotive giant’s performance was up 28.4 per cent from 1.76 million vehicles in 2024 when it narrowly failed to eclipse its American rival.
Tesla completed 1.79 million EV sales that year but its numbers tumbled by 8.4 per cent to 1.64 million in 2025.
Latest figures also show the Elon Musk-led company completed 418,227 deliveries in the final three months of last year as demand fell after the end of a US tax credit for EVs and consumer revolt against his right-wing politics.
