Marque passes sales milestone

BYD is celebrating having sold more than 15,000 vehicles in New Zealand four years after launching in the market.

After starting with a small line-up of vehicles, the company now offers 11 models and has 25 dealer and service locations across the country.

It says 9,824 battery EVS and 5,248 plug-in hybrids have accounted for it passing the sales milestone.

Warren Willmot, general manager of BYD Auto NZ, adds: “Reaching 15,000 vehicles on New Zealand roads is a monumental moment for BYD.

“It represents thousands of individual decisions by Kiwi families and businesses to back a brand that didn’t exist here four years ago.”

The company is hailing the environmental impact of its achievements. It claims the BYD fleet avoids about 14 million litres of petrol use annually, when compared with equivalent internal combustion engine vehicles consuming 8l/100km.

It also estimates its fleet saves about 33,900 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions annually, with a cumulative total of about 68,000 tonnes avoided since 2022.
