The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries has welcomed the NSW government announcing an AU$16.1 million (NZ$17.4m) investment in 246 new fast and ultra-fast EV charging stations across the state.

Chief executive Tony Weber, pictured, describes the investment, supported by more than AU$25m in private capital, as a positive step towards ensuring charging infrastructure keeps pace with rising electric-vehicle adoption.

“Improved access to public fast-charging stations will help alleviate range anxiety and support consumer confidence as Australians transition to zero and low-emissions vehicles,” he adds.

“This is exactly the type of collaborative approach between government and industry that’s needed to support growing demand. Australia trails leading nations in its EV charging infrastructure, reinforcing the need for targeted investment in high-speed public chargers.

“We know the majority of EV charging happens at home. But a well-distributed public network, including high-speed options on major routes, is vital to ensuring all drivers confidently make the switch.”
