BMW Group’s EV sales boom

BMW Group New Zealand is celebrating sales of its fully electric models jumping in the first half of 2022, when compared with the same period of last year.

The launch of BMW’s iX3 and iX, which recorded 127 and 21 registrations respectively between January and June this year, bolstered the marque’s performance for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) after only selling a handful a year earlier.

For the group’s Mini brand, sales of the Electric Hatch increased 210 per cent and climbed from 35 units to 108 over the same timeframe, while the Countryman Hybrid rose 60 per cent from 60 to 96.

The domestic registration figures for the half-year echo the success for BMW Group globally, after worldwide sales of its fully electric BMW and Mini models grew by 110.3 per cent.

BMW NZ plans to expand its electrified line-up to 10 models with the recent launch of the i4 Gran Coupe, the launch of the i7 flagship sedan later this year, and its iX1 is set to be available in 2023.

The German carmaker aims to have more than two million fully electric vehicles on the roads globally by the end of 2025 and Mini will have an all-electric product range by the early 2030s.
