Back-to-back falls for register

The number of dealers on the Motor Vehicle Traders Register (MVTR) dropped by four last month, bringing the total to 2,593 at the end of April.

It was the second consecutive fall, after a decrease of six registered traders through March, and last month’s figure is the lowest total since 2,591 in September 2025.

April’s figure is also 172 below the 2,765 recorded at the end of the same month last year.

Dealer numbers have largely been in decline since hitting a high of 3,535 in November 2017.

The MVTR holds essential information about registered traders and their businesses. It is operated by Occupational Regulation, which is part of the market integrity branch of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
