Autosure has raised more than $8,200 for charity in the space of a month, with all the funds going to the Gut Cancer Foundation.

The company ran an online donation campaign throughout March and held an auction in Auckland to generate cash to aid research and awareness of gut cancer.

Autosure says it had set a target of raising $8,000 for the foundation this year but it managed to collect $4,400 alone from the auction night and $8,245 in total.

It has now raised more than $46,000 for the charity in the past six years.

James Searle, Autosure’s chief executive officer, says: “We are proud to once again support the Gut Cancer Foundation’s annual fundraiser.

“A huge thank you to our team and our business partners for their generosity and support – it’s inspiring to see so many people come together for such an important cause.”

Some of the items that attracted the highest bids at the auction in late March were a bottle of 2012 Stonyridge Larose wine, Beats Studio Buds noise-cancelling earphones and a signed Wellington Phoenix shirt.

Natalie Ross-Murphy, marketing manager, adds: “At Autosure we’re passionate about making a difference and this is a charity that’s very close to our hearts.

“We’ve been supporting them since 2019 and many of us in the business know people who are or have been affected by gut cancer.”

Liam Willis, executive officer of the foundation, attended the auction and says he is grateful for the ongoing support it receives from Autosure and its parent company, Turners Automotive.

“It was great evening again. Autosure have run these events for a number of years now and the attendance seems to be growing year on year,” he adds.

“The money raised makes a huge difference. Over the years, Autosure has raised over $46,000 for the foundation at these events and it’s part of a collective effort from Turners Automotive, which has raised over $420,000 in recent years.”

Willis says the foundation has ambitious plans and such continued support allows it to “plan and think big”.

Besides supporting research and awareness campaigns, the money will also go towards helping start a patient support service and research to better understand patient priorities.

“These are new projects and we rely on the funding of partners like Autosure and Turners to help make things like this happen.”
