Auction platform sets new record

Online auction platform Collecting Cars is celebrating a new full-year sales record in Australia and New Zealand after more than 1,100 successful auctions in 2025 raked in over A$80 million (about NZ$93m).

The company specialises in selling classic, performance and collectible cars and says last year’s clearance rate was 30 per cent higher than in 2024.

Collecting Cars ended the year with nearly A$7m in sales from 107 lots across New Zealand and Australia in December, 43 per cent higher than during the same period last year.

Last month’s sales highlights included a 2008 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 fetching NZ$280,000 and a 2001 Subaru Impreza, pictured, one of Possum Bourne’s old rally cars, selling for A$130,000.

May was the biggest month for Collecting Cars in the Asia-Pacific region, which includes Australia and New Zealand, after it sold more than A$9m in cars.

Globally, the platform sold more than 4,500 consignments in 2025 and generated over $525m for sellers.

The top sale down under during 2025 was a 2022 McLaren 765LT Spider going under the hammer for A$795,000, while the top brand by volume and value was Porsche after it sold 129 units for A$16m.
