About 80 models in line for rebate
About 80 cars in our market look set to be entitled to a rebate when the government’s clean-car discount is introduced on July 1, according to the RightCar website.
The site run by Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency has a link for vehicles that may meet the criteria for the rebates, which will initially target battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs).
Only vehicles with a safety rating of three stars or more and that cost less than $80,000, including GST and on-road charges, will be eligible for the discount announced by the government on June 13.
Rebates of up to $8,625 will be available for new BEVS and $3,450 for used BEVs, while the figures for new and used PHEVs are $5,750 and $2,300 respectively.
RightCar was listing 80 EVs and PHEVs, as of June 18, that are available in New Zealand and meet the clean-car criteria. Of those, five have three-star safety ratings, 12 score four stars and 63 achieve the top ranking of five stars.
The website also details how well the vehicles score on carbon emissions, fuel economy and air pollution.
The clean-car discount will be extended to other low-emissions vehicles from the start of 2022.
