Webinars to deliver CCS low-down

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is inviting automotive industry members to a series of webinars it is hosting on changes to the clean car standard (CCS) that will kick in from June 1.

The online sessions aim to provide key information to importers and dealers before they must start paying for any accrued charges, which the government has deferred from January 1 when the CCS was implemented.

Pay-as-you-go importers will have to start paying charges as they accept vehicles into their carbon dioxide (CO2) account from the beginning of June.

They will need to make a one-off payment for any charges incurred between January 1 and May 31 this year, and they can also use credits to offset charges or transfer them with other accounts.

In order to transfer credits with other importers, account holders need to be anti-money laundering verified, regardless of whether they are transferring or receiving credits.

Importers can also go onto the CCS account register, a list of account holders who would like to connect with others for credit-trading purposes.

The agency will be running webinars on the following dates:
• Tuesday, May 16, 1pm-2pm
• Thursday, May 18, 9.30am-10.30am
• Tuesday, May 23, 1pm-2pm
• Wednesday, May 24, 2pm-3pm

People interested in attending only need to register for one webinar as each one will cover the same information.

To register, email CCSImporter@nzta.govt.nz with which online session you plan to attend and Waka Kotahi will send a link to the relevant webinar.
